Program Updates

We are excited that the Also-Known-As, Inc. 15 Year Anniversary is only a few days away.  In the programs section of this website, please view the finalized itinerary and information regarding registration and all the program events.  

Note that the Friday night reception, Saturday Conference Workshops, and Sunday Informal Brunch are only for full conference registrants.

 

Thursday Night Social Event at 3 Steps

A Thursday night social event has been organized for people arriving early to the weekend celebration and for those local to the area. The social will be held at 3 Steps. An area inside the bar will be reserved for this event. Beer, wine, and well drinks will be half off.

Event will be cash bar.

The event is open to all adoptees, friends, and family. Come out and start the weekend early!

4/02/11 UPDATE:

The Opening Reception will be held at Red Bar, only blocks away from Korea town and the Hotel Pennsylvania.  The venue will only be opened to participants of the Also-Known-As, Inc. 15 Year Anniversary Celebration from 6:30pm to 9:30pm on Friday April 29th.

The Opening Reception at Red Bar is Co-Sponsored by The Association of Korean Adoptees – San Francisco (AKA SF).

Volunteering at the Anniversary Celebration:
If you are interested in volunteering at the Also-Known-As 15th Anniversary, please contact Susan at sbecker@alsoknownas.org with your interests and availabilities.

Opportunities include:
- Registration table (Friday and/or Saturday).
- Social event contact person (requires sharing your cell phone # with conference participants).
- Setup and breakdown for workshops.
- A/V assistance for workshops.
- People to help coordinate buses to/from Manhattan and Flushing (Gala Dinner).

Gala Dinner Raffle:
We are happy to announce that Nintendo and Nike have donated products to our event which we will raffle at the gala dinner on Saturday night!  Check out the Gala Dinner Page for more information.

Conference presentations and presenters will be posted this week.

Welcome to the Also-Known-As, Inc. 15th Anniversary Website! Here you can register for the conference, book a hotel room, find out travel information and get instant updates on our programming!

We want to extend a warm invitation to all Also-Known-As members, families and friends to celebrate our 15th Anniversary with us from April 29, 2011to May 1, 2011! For those from out of town, this is a great opportunity to see old friends and meet new ones while exploring New York City. For those of you who are in the area and may have been out of touch, there's no better time than now to reconnect with Also-Known-As! For 15 years, Also-Known-As has provided services to international Adoptees, their families and friends, and we could not have continued to develop our diverse programs without your endless support. Please join us to celebrate all that we have accomplished!

Hotel Accommodations We are also happy to be able to offer a great rate at the Hotel Pennsylvania for those who are coming from out of town. The rates are $159/night for 1 Full Bed (1-2 People) and $189/night for 2 Full Beds (3-4 People). For those of you planning a longer stay, rates will be available from April 24, 2011 to May 3, 2011 (5 days prior and 2 days following the 15th Anniversary).

Interested in presenting at our conference? As an integral part of our Anniversary, we are calling for proposals from scholars, artists, activists, and other professionals who were adopted internationally or interracially for a one-day conference entitled, "Past, Present, and Future". All intercountry, transnational, transracial, and international adoptees are encouraged to submit proposals for papers, presentations, performances and workshops.
